Sarasota Farms

  About Us

In its clearest terms, Community Supported Farms (CSFs), are a concept describing a community-based organization of producers and consumers.  The consumers agree to provide direct, upfront support for the local growers who will produce their food.

The growers agree to do their best to provide a sufficient quantity and quality of food to meet the needs and expectations of the consumers. Within this general arrangement there is room for much variation, depending on the resources and desires of the participants.

We grow specially selected gourmet varieties not usually available in stores.  We pick for maximum freshness and taste, and provide our produce immediately after harvest to guarantee the highest nutritional quality.

We use organic methods to insure the highest nutritional value.  We grow only vegetables, salad greens and herbs that are believed to prevent disease and promote good health due to their increased levels of vitamins, antioxidants and other natural beneficial compounds.

USDA Definition of a CSA
In basic terms, CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community's farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. Members or shareholders of the farm or garden pledge in advance to cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and farmer's salary. In return, they receive shares in the farm's bounty throughout the growing season, as well as satisfaction gained from reconnecting to the land. Members also share in risks, including poor harvest due to unfavorable weather or pests.

  Our Mission

The Sarasota Farm Community Supported Agricultural Project is a program of The Global Peace Project Agricultural Research Center, located here in Sarasota, Florida.  We are a 501-C-3, charitable, scientific, and educational Florida corporation.

The specific purpose of The Global Peace Project Agricultural Research Center is to establish a network of Agricultural Research Centers worldwide, in order to promote and demonstrate the scientific practices of biodynamic, French-intensive farming, including the technologies of organic gardening, hydroponics and integrated pest management.

We are also here to demonstrate current state-of-the-art organic farming and to provide concrete solutions for small and large scale farm systems.  We will create an ongoing educational outreach program, consisting of seminars in the community.

We will facilitate the implementation of the purposes of the United Nations as set forth in Agenda 21, Chapter 14, adopted by the Plenary in Rio de Janeiro, on June 14, 1992.

And to prepare and implement comprehensive policies and programs leading to the reclamation of degraded lands and the conservation of areas at risk, as well as improve the general planning, management and utilization of land resources and preserve soil fertility for sustainable agricultural development.

We will also develop and make available national and international know-how to farmers, extension agents, planners and policy makers, demonstrating environmentally sound organic farming soil-fertility management strategies for supporting the transfer to sustainable agriculture.
